The modified version of SelectedItem is too easily confused with the original version, leading to trouble. Also, you cannot specify explicit ContentTemplate for your tab items, which may be inconvenient: one cannot always rely on implicit data templating. I tried to come up with a solution that does not require modification of ItemsSource, and I think I got one: the idea is to have an attached property that modifies ContentTemplate to include a border whose child is modified at runtime, without every touching ItemsSource.

The initial version is for your review is here. As I very quickly coded it in 3 hours or so, I am sure there is something I missed, so comments are welcome.
